SUMMARY:Phoenix Herpetological Society Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Field trips at the Phoenix Herpetological Society include a behind-the-scenes look at a reptile sanctuary and its inhabitants.  On the two hour tour\, students will learn about over 1700 reptiles including: \n\ntortoises\, like our native Sonoran Desert Tortoise as well as the three largest species of tortoises in the world\nlarge lizards such as iguanas and the carnivorous monitors and tegus\nvenomous snakes (safely within in their habitats/enclosures of course) such as rattlesnakes\, cobras\, and mambas\n22 species of crocodilians (the second largest collection in the country) with alligators\, crocodiles\, caimans\, and gharials.\nnon-venomous snakes such as king snakes\, ball pythons\, and gopher snakes\nsmall lizards like bearded dragons and chuckwallas\n\nPHS Field Trips are very hands-on and interactive; we give students the chance to meet\, touch\, and interact with as many animals as possible while teaching about adaptations\, life histories\, and considerations that we must take into account by having them at our sanctuary. We also teach about desert safety and what to do if they ever see a rattlesnake in the wild. \nIt is definitely a unique experience that students will not forget.  They get the chance to hold a lizard and a snake…for many kids\, this is the first (and maybe the only!) time they will ever do that.  They learn about safety and responsibility of having a reptile as a pet and they learn why reptiles are such amazing animals.  \nOur field trips have been the spark that ignited a passion for reptiles in many young people and we are proud to offer field trips all year long.  Cost is $10.61 per child and $8.55 per chaperone. \n  \nThis event is open to all ages\, please use your discretion on if it will be a good fit for your family. \n

SUMMARY:Butterfly Wonderland
DESCRIPTION:Cost: $12 per student (24 months and under are free)\n$17 per adult \n  \nStep inside the largest indoor rainforest conservatory in the United States. More than 3\,000 butterflies from around the world flutter among the lush tropical plants and flowers\, landing for just long enough to capture the perfect photograph. The flowers\, trees and plants within the atrium have been chosen precisely for the butterfly species within. Butterfly Wonderland truly is one of the most amazing butterfly conservatories not only in the country\, but also in the world.\nIn addition to our Conservatory which hosts thousands of tropical rainforest butterflies\, we also have the Chrysalis Emergence Gallery (where you get to see butterflies emerge from their pupa)\, Rainforest Reptiles\, Spineless giants (insects from the rainforest)\, Tropical Waters (rainforest aquatic life).\nThe movie is a little over 14 minutes long and is a 3D film about the remarkable journey of the Monarch Butterfly’s yearly migration! \nThis event is open to all ages. Please use your discretion on if it is a good fit for your family. \nWe are required to enter together. Please ensure you arrive on time. You will receive a wristband and a brief overview before entering. \nTours are self-guided\, and last approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. \nNo outside food is allowed to be brought in. There is a cafe you can purchase food in. \nYou may exit and re-enter the facility throughout the day to enjoy the restaurants\, shops\, and entertainment at OdySea in the Desert.  Please ask a team member to stamp your hand before exiting. \nOur conservatory offers a remarkable “Rainforest Experience” that is teeming with life! The temperature inside the conservatory hovers around 80 degrees and humidity is roughly 80%. Please dress accordingly. \nStrollers are permitted in the building\, apart from the Conservatory (due to USDA regulations). There is a designated “stroller parking area” where strollers can be kept while guests visit the Conservatory. \n  \nButterfly Wonderland is proud to be an officially designated Pal Place\, which means we’ve taken steps to be more inclusive for guests with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities. By partnering with Pal\, thanks to The Butterfly Wonderland Foundation\, we created a video social story so you can see what to expect\, insider tips and a sensory scale to help you plan your visit while you’re at Butterfly Wonderland. \nTickets are nonrefundable\, but you are welcome to sell them to someone else. \nRegistration closes Feb 9
