SUMMARY:Field Trip - Phoenix Childrens Museum
DESCRIPTION:Cost: $15.00 per person over 3\nTime: 10:15 check-in\, you will be able to stay until close. It usually takes 2-3 hours to get through the museum.\n\nThere is currently no food service in the museum. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch to eat there in the outdoor areas.\nAn Overview of the Museum:\nART STUDIO – located on the 3rd floor\nIn this creative workshop\, visitors find an ever-changing array of hands-on art activities that help them make connections\nto the real world as well as to other exhibits in the Museum. Art Studio creativity includes gobs of glue\, explosions of color\, cutting with scissors to develop small muscles and fine-tune eye-hand coordination\, and releasing the imagination in bursts of creativity.\nBLOCKMANIA! – located on the 1st floor\nBlock play is universal; something that nearly all children experience in their lifetime. This space was designed to provide\nample opportunities for children and their caregivers to interact with a variety of blocks.\nBOOK LOFT – located on the 3rd floor\nReading together is one of the most important activities a caregiver can do with a child as it nurtures a love of the written\nword and builds a foundation for literacy and later success in school. This space is more low-key than most – comfy and\ncozy to encourage children to snuggle in and read a good book. The loft space also affords a view to upper levels of the\nClimber and a closer look at the CD wall. Storytime with Museum staff or guest readers is presented every day in the\nBook Loft.\nBUILDING BIG – located on the 2nd floor\nThis exhibit provides a host of raw materials and found items that might represent columns\, beams\, walls and roofs\, all\ntypical elements of the construction industry. Building Big entices the boundless imaginations of children to creatively\nengineer their own personal forts or contribute to a larger cooperative building project.\nTHE SCHUFF-PERINI CLIMBER – located on the 1st floor\nThe Climber towers above the Atrium floor offering a bird’s eye view of the bustling activity below. Created from\nstandard building materials\, found objects\, items out of context and a little inspiration from some wacky imaginations\, the\nclimbing adventure is guaranteed to stretch the muscles\, provide a perceived feeling of risk and challenge all to climb to\nnew heights.\nTHE GRAND BALLROOM – located on the 3rd floor\nBalls go up\, balls go down\, balls go rolling all around – dropping\, triggering\, spiraling\, bumping – flashes of movement\nand a myriad of sounds fill this action-packed room.\nMARKET – located on the 3rd floor\nA trip to the grocery store becomes a delight as children make real choices about what products to put in the cart.\nOpportunities for role-play abound as children restock the shelves\, ring up the items as a cashier\, or fill the shopping cart\nas customer. Much like real life\, the market experience exercises the child’s physical\, cognitive\, and social skills.\nMOVE IT! – located on the front lawn\nThe front lawn is a wondrous play space filled with many opportunities for moving and learning in the great outdoors!\nNOODLE FOREST – located on the 3rd floor\nOodles of noodles suspended from above offer sensory immersion in a unique and engaging environment. A thick forest\nof textural delight awaits visitors as they navigate this unfamiliar yet stimulating terrain. The Noodle Forest is guaranteed\nto activate the senses and inspire giggles.\nPEDAL POWER – located on the 2nd floor\nPedal Power is a long\, narrow space perfect for riding tricycles – and that is just what young visitors can do here. Many\nyoung children\, especially in the inner city\, never have the opportunity to ride a tricycle. Within the safe confines of the\nMuseum\, young visitors can learn to master the art of pedaling\, test their sense of balance\, and practice cooperative play\nas they stop and go on imagined roadways.\nPLACE FOR THREES AND YOUNGER – located on the 3rd floor\nThis gallery is for our youngest visitors and has many components designed to meet the particular developmental needs of\ninfants and toddlers. Older students will enjoy looking at the wall of shoes just outside this exhibit space.\nPIT STOP – located on the 3rd floor\nPit Stop is like an industrial art studio where a donated race car is the centerpiece. A real motorcycle provides another\nmeans of “transportation” or just a cool spot to sit and watch racecars zoom by overhead.\nTEXTURE CAFÉ – located on the 3rd floor\nChildren use an amazing array of fabrics and materials to create the meal of their dreams. Tables and booths\, counters and\nstools\, and a full-service kitchen with ovens\, stoves\, storage and utensils provide the framework for culinary escapades.\nWHOOSH! – located in the Atrium & on the 2nd floor\nWhoosh! introduces children to the power of air with a freestanding jumble of connected tubes where children feed\nscarves in a rainbow of colors into the transparent\, air-powered structure. Scarves shoot up through the pipes at high\nspeeds\, to heights of 20’ or more\, are released in a burst of energy from high above\, and gently float down slowly to land\non or be caught by children.

SUMMARY:Agritopia Farm Tour
DESCRIPTION:Cost: $5.50 per person \nMasks are required per the venue and the Maricopa County mask mandate. \nJoin us for a tour of the farm at Agritopia! All ages are welcome. \nPlease park in the parking lot on the west side of the property closest to Barnone and the Orchard. \n  \n  \n\nOwned by the non-profit Johnston Family Foundation for Urban Agriculture\, The Farm at Agritopia is made up of several components demonstrating a model for urban agriculture.\n\n\nThe commercial farm is designed to flourish in an urban setting – instead of a huge field of one crop\, you find a patchwork of numerous specialty crops. All of the produce grown on the farm is grown under the USDA organic protocol. The produce\, including a variety of vegetables\, citrus\, and Medjool dates\, is sold at the Farm Store located on the west side of Barnone\, as well as served at several restaurants on property including Joe’s Farm Grill\, Fire\, and Brimstone\, The Uprooted kitchen and also at Liberty Market. We also hold a farmers market every Wednesday evening from 5 pm – 8 pm at the Farm Store to highlight local vendors.\n\n\nThe community garden is for individuals to participate directly in growing produce themselves. With over 40 plots\, a community tool shed\, and lots of events\, it is truly a community of gardeners. Plots are rented by the year and are 400SF\, which can support up to three families. Be sure to contact us if you are interested in renting a plot. The public is welcome to wander through the gardens and see what the gardeners are growing. It is a great opportunity to learn what grows seasonally in our area and to interact with gardeners.\n\n\nThe biblical garden and public pathways are yet another perspective on urban farming and gardening. Our area is very similar in climate to the Middle East. The biblical garden is a demonstration garden of plants mentioned in the Bible. You’ll find placards that identify the plants. It also is an area for resting and relaxing with built-in seat walls. The public pathways are lined with table grapes\, including grape arbors. Feel free to wander through the pathways and biblical garden\, enjoying the beauty of the area while learning more about local plant life.

SUMMARY:Phoenix Herpetological Society Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Field trips at the Phoenix Herpetological Society include a behind-the-scenes look at a reptile sanctuary and its inhabitants.  On the two hour tour\, students will learn about over 1700 reptiles including: \n\ntortoises\, like our native Sonoran Desert Tortoise as well as the three largest species of tortoises in the world\nlarge lizards such as iguanas and the carnivorous monitors and tegus\nvenomous snakes (safely within in their habitats/enclosures of course) such as rattlesnakes\, cobras\, and mambas\n22 species of crocodilians (the second largest collection in the country) with alligators\, crocodiles\, caimans\, and gharials.\nnon-venomous snakes such as king snakes\, ball pythons\, and gopher snakes\nsmall lizards like bearded dragons and chuckwallas\n\nPHS Field Trips are very hands-on and interactive; we give students the chance to meet\, touch\, and interact with as many animals as possible while teaching about adaptations\, life histories\, and considerations that we must take into account by having them at our sanctuary. We also teach about desert safety and what to do if they ever see a rattlesnake in the wild. \nIt is definitely a unique experience that students will not forget.  They get the chance to hold a lizard and a snake…for many kids\, this is the first (and maybe the only!) time they will ever do that.  They learn about safety and responsibility of having a reptile as a pet and they learn why reptiles are such amazing animals.  \nOur field trips have been the spark that ignited a passion for reptiles in many young people and we are proud to offer field trips all year long.  Cost is $10.61 per child and $8.55 per chaperone. \n  \nThis event is open to all ages\, please use your discretion on if it will be a good fit for your family. \n
